THERAPIES
AND MODALITIES
Massage Therapy Massage
Therapy is among the oldest of all treatments used by man. A
hands-on
manipulation of the soft tissues of the
body including
muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints and connective tissue,
Massage Therapy is an accepted and effective part of many physical
rehabilitation
programs and has proven beneficial to many chronic conditions
such as low back pain, carpel tunnel syndrome, arthritis
and bursitis.
Massage Therapy may improve physical
condition, relieve pain, facilitate relaxation, reduce stress,
improve mental acuity and promote health. British Columbia's Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) are among
the highest trained in the world with 3000 hours of training. Many
people are not aware that BC's RMTs are trained in a diverse range
of modalities including therapeutic exercise and hydrotherapy.

Acupuncture
Stemming
from an ancient Chinese system of medicine, acupuncture involves
the insertion of
very thin, sterile, and disposable needles into various acupuncture 'points'
located throughout the body.
Acupuncture can be used for many disorders and imbalances including back pain,
sports injuries, headaches, arthritis, and gynecological and obstetrical concerns.
In British Columbia, acupuncture is a licenced profession.

Pilates
Pilates is a system of movement and exercise created and developed
in the early 1900's by German-born athlete and physical therapy
pioneer, Joseph Hubertus Pilates. It can be taught individually
and used for rehabilitation or in groups.
The
Pilates Method can dramatically improve strength, flexibility,
coordination and posture. The Pilates
Method shapes bodies, developing sleek muscles rather than bulky
ones. People who consistently use the Pilates Method discover that,
without conscious effort, they improve their posture, move more
gracefully, sleep better, and develop firmer, sleeker and more
powerful muscles.
